Many yoga instructors are beginning to branch out from only offering in-person classes to expanding their reach by creating an online presence where they can offer services to a global clientele. Not only does this allow them to reach and help more people on their wellness journey, but it also aids the yoga instructors by helping to grow their business.

When deciding to form an online presence, there are a lot of questions yoga instructors have: what should they put on their website? Can they host classes online, and if so- how? What about an on-demand video library? How do they attract new clientele without paying for ads each month?

My intention in this article is to answer all of these questions and more. I’m going to help you understand what is possible with your new website and several different things to consider.

So let’s jump in!

Ready to Take Your Yoga Business Online? Some food for thought:

“what should i put on my yoga website?”

Many yoga teachers might not be sure as to what they should offer on their website or what’s even possible, so I’m going to list out some ideas and options for you to think about:

  • You could offer an “on-demand video library” of pre-recorded yoga classes and place these in a Member Area (a Squarespace feature) so that they’re kept behind a paywall. The way this would work is that you create a page (or pages) with these videos (you can upload the videos to YouTube as unlisted, and then add them to the Squarespace site using a video block) and then promote the video library throughout your website and over time gain monthly passive income as more and more people sign up for the membership (you decide what each member will be charged monthly, or annually).

  • You could promote your live-streamed classes so that people can sign up and join your live class(es) online from virtually anywhere in the world. A good way to do this is to integrate Acuity Scheduling and Zoom with your Squarespace site so that once it’s all set up, the process is mostly automated. Once you have your private or group classes offered in Scheduling, anyone can click to sign up, the payment and scheduling happen automatically, the client would get sent a link automatically (through the Zoom integration) to their email inbox letting them know the code to access the live Zoom session, and that’s it- you just show up for the scheduled time and conduct your class!

  • You could also promote your services locally if you want to continue doing in-person yoga sessions with people. Using good organic SEO strategies, you can show up on search results for keywords specific to your area (e.g.”yoga studio louisville kentucky”). Then, people can contact you to schedule an in-person class or see your in-person class schedule.

Yoga Websites Using Squarespace

Here is a great example of a website I recently created for a client who—living in Switzerland but with a global clientele—wanted to offer all of the above and more.

And here is another website I created a couple of years ago for a yoga teacher in Colorado who wanted to take her studio more online:

Hopefully these websites can give you some good food for thought to encourage further brainstorming.

The Importance of Good SEO

You’ve probably heard at least little sound bites here and there about SEO, but I do want to stress how important it is, especially in this industry.

The online yoga industry is pretty saturated, so how are you going to get your website noticed amidst the sea of other online yoga professionals?

The answer is that you won’t without a good SEO strategy -and- SEO built into the very framework of your website as it’s being designed.

This is crucial if you’re serious about building a yoga business that is successful in the long-term.

To make sure SEO gets done right, I recommend one of the following approaches:

If you’re hesitant about spending the money right now, I would strongly suggest saving the amount and doing it right instead of just getting a website out there for immediate gratification.
